Atlanta's burgeoning film scene boasts several exciting new studios, expanding its production capacity and attracting even more projects:
1. Assembly Atlanta: Opened in September 2023, this behemoth sits on the former General Motors Assembly Plant site in Doraville. Partnered with Gray Television and NBCUniversal Media, it offers 10 sound stages, diverse office spaces, and a public entertainment zone. With a capacity for 4,000 full-time staffers, it's already a magnet for major productions.
2. Electric Owl Studios: Launched in June 2023, this DeKalb County studio emphasizes sustainability, earning the title of "the greenest studio on earth." Its three sound stages and eco-friendly design, including solar panels and rainwater harvesting, attract productions seeking an environmentally conscious approach.
3. Lionsgate Studios Atlanta: Set to open in late 2023 within the Great Point Studios complex in Douglasville, this major studio will be the anchor tenant. Its 12 sound stages, office space, and restaurant, spread across 500,000 square feet, are already drawing interest from big-name projects.
4. Pinewood Atlanta Studios: While not technically new, Pinewood has been steadily expanding. Construction on its Stage 16, slated for completion in early 2024, adds another 30,000 square feet to this established studio hub.
5. Various Boutique Studios: Beyond these giants, several smaller studios have popped up, catering to niche needs. Blackhall Studios offers intimate shooting spaces, while 3rd Rail Studios provides flexible studios and production services.
These newest additions, along with the existing film infrastructure, solidify Atlanta's position as a leading production hub in the Southeast. So, for catering companies in the film industry, Atlanta presents a wealth of exciting opportunities to work with diverse studios and productions.
I hope this information is helpful! Don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions about the Atlanta film scene or catering for productions.

If you're planning a production and need to hire a catering company, these tips will help you ensure that your event is a success.
By following these tips, you can choose the perfect catering company for your production and ensure that your crew is well-fed and happy.
Craft service or craft services is the department in film, television and video production which provides cast and crew with snacks, drinks and other assistance.
Craft service workers are nicknamed "crafties" and are represented by a union, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE). Other departments such as camera, sound, electricians, grips, props, art director, set decorator, special effects, hair and make-up, are referred to as crafts. Craft service is also an IATSE craft and the work is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Craft service is different from catering; craft service refers to the food always available to the crew while they are working, while catering is provided by a catering company or a restaurant and handles full meals.
Typically there is one main table where the snacks and coffee are set up (which is simply called "crafty" or "the crafty table"). Occasionally there are two craft service stations, with one being for cast and crew and another for non-union background actors. A "satellite" crafty may be set up next to the camera, as they may not be able to leave their workstations. In addition to snacks and drinks, the craft service department clears the set of trash. Aside from snacks and beverages, craft service may also supply bandages, aspirin, gum, antacids, toothpicks, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, and hand-warmers.

According to Deadline, the new DeKalb Entertainment Commission launched earlier this week with the mission to further grow the county’s film, television, music, and digital entertainment industries.
Starting October 21st, DeKalb Entertainment Commission will launch an entertainment expo event with panels, workshops and other resources for producers, aspiring filmmakers, and artists.
“The new DeKalb Entertainment Commission will be about making connections, building collaboration and creating amazing content,” said Andrew Greenberg, commission chairman. “It will be the economic engine that drives growth for our county across the entertainment industry, encouraging companies to locate here while creating jobs and spurring construction, development and overall industry growth.”
He added: “The commission will be an important resource for DeKalb County as the entertainment industry continues to grow across Georgia. It has already had an enormous economic impact statewide, with $9.5 billion in film and television, $3.7 billion in music and almost $2 billion in digital entertainment.”
The county has also launched a new website, DeKalbEntertainment.com, to make it easier for permitting and finding locations.
Georgia is now the No. 1 filming location in the world, according to FilmL.A., and the industry has a giant impact on the state's economy.
In the past year, 320 film and television productions shot in the state.
The main reason for the industry's staggering growth is the state's film incentive program, which awards up to 30 percent of what a production spends back in transferable tax credits that can then be sold on the free market. The most recent iteration of the credit was rolled out in 2008.
The hundreds of productions that filmed here last year also employed tens of thousands of Georgians. According to the Motion Picture Association of America, 28,656 people are directly employed in film and television and 12,518 work in a production-related field.

Atlanta Craft Services and Catering is VERY HAPPY to report that Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has vetoed a bill that would have "legalized" discrimination of the LGBT community in the state of Georgia.
Aside from the proposed bill being WILDLY outrageous, it would have caused economic disaster for all things business related in the state of Georgia.
Atlanta Craft Services sends a huge thank you to all of the support by the Movie and TV Production community here in the state, there is no doubt that without your outpouring of support, things could have gone down differently!
